Russell Smith was born on August 23, 1933, on a farm north of Frankford, Ontario. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy, serving on HMCS Magnificent which was in harbour at the time of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth.
Russell returned to his home area after his service in the navy, raising two children. Retired, he now enjoys the comforts of that life, additionally enjoying his two grandchildren.
